FOX 5 DC/FOX 5 Plus is seeking an energetic and competitive Assignment Editor to join our dynamic newsroom team. This full-time position is ideal for a news enthusiast who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is eager to take ownership of the day-to-day newsgathering process. The successful candidate will be a strategic problem-solver, capable of thinking quickly under pressure and resolving issues with a positive, solution-oriented approach. We are looking for someone who excels at building relationships, aggressively connecting with sources and community partners to gather information and story leads. Candidates must possess advanced organizational skills and the ability to prioritize time-sensitive media content effectively. In this role, you will generate story leads and respond to breaking news for both broadcast and digital platforms. You will proactively gather and communicate news content to be used in newscasts and on digital platforms, ensuring that our coverage is timely and relevant. Organizing logistics and tracking details for stories and crews will be a key part of your responsibilities, as will coordinating daily assignments of news coverage and special events. You will develop contacts and sources to advance stories beyond mere press releases, monitor police and fire scanners for breaking news, and maintain contact with law enforcement, fire, government agencies, and other key community partners to stay updated on information and story leads. Handling a high volume of email and phone traffic will be part of your daily routine, and you will need to think critically under pressure while working professionally with colleagues and community partners. Daily collaboration with reporters, anchors, photographers, production teams, management, and other staff members will be essential, as will participation in editorial, department, and station meetings. Other duties may be assigned as needed, making flexibility and adaptability important traits for this position.
