About The Position

The Assets Protection Team Leader at Target is responsible for leading a security culture, including crisis response, safety environment, and crowd management planning. This role involves protecting profitable sales by mitigating shortage risks, preventing theft and fraud, and ensuring product availability for guests. The Team Leader will build relationships with store leaders and public safety officials, including law enforcement, and will lead a team of hourly team members to develop their skills and expertise. The position requires responding to theft incidents, implementing strategic resolutions, and educating store leadership on operational shortage priorities.

Requirements

  • Age 18 or older.
  • High school degree or equivalent.
  • Meet any state or local licensure and/or other legal requirements related to the position.
  • Previous retail and/or loss prevention experience preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to lead and hold others accountable.
  • Ability to communicate on multiple frequency devices and operate handheld scanners.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Manage workload and prioritize tasks independently.
  • Welcoming and helpful attitude.
  • Effective communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support total store sales and increase profitability by ensuring products are in stock and available to guests.
  • Welcome and engage guests at the front of the store and on the sales floor.
  • Influence and validate physical security and safety processes.
  • Participate in store response and emergency crisis situations.
  • Create security plans for in-store events.
  • Support leader in educating teams on emergency preparedness and physical security procedures.
  • Develop, coach, and lead team members to elevate their skills and expertise.
  • Anticipate staffing needs and support leader in talent planning.
  • Identify theft and shortage trends in the store.
  • Work a schedule that aligns with guest and business needs based on security and theft patterns.
  • Own the prevention and resolution of external theft incidents.
  • Initiate, investigate, and resolve internal investigations as directed.
  • Educate store leadership on merchandise protection best practices.
  • Communicate AP priorities to the team, peers, and leadership.
  • Build relationships of trust and accountability with leaders and Store Director.
  • Maintain relationships with district and store leaders and law enforcement.
  • Lead and demonstrate a culture of executing all best practices.
  • Serve as first responder for in-store safety incidents.
  • Model creating a welcoming experience for guests.
