The Novelis Bay Minette, AL team is seeking Asset Protection Technicians – Fire Systems Specialists to work in the Bay Minette facility. This role will ensure the reliability, safety, and compliance of fire protection systems across the facility. This role involves inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of fire suppression and detection systems, supporting continuity and asset protection. This role reports to the Property Conservation Coordinator.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Active/current Driver’s License.
  • Industrial mechanical experience with fire suppression and detection systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical schematics and system diagrams.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding environment (lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing ladders, confined spaces)
  • Basic Mechanical Skills. Able to safely perform medium difficulty mechanical work and proper usage of tools.

Nice To Haves

  • NFPA 25 certification or equivalent training.
  • NFPA 72 training or equivalent.
  • NFPA 70E Qualified Electrical Worker
  • HazMat Technician.
  • High Angle/Rope Rescue and Confined Space Rescue.
  • Pro-Board Fire Fighter I and II certification or industry equivalent.
  • Pro-Board Apparatus Operator and Aerial.
  • Minimum one year of industrial Fire Fighter or three years of municipal Fire Fighter experience.
  • Current Nationally Registered or State of Alabama EMT-Basic or above.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance on fire suppression systems, including sprinkler systems, CO₂ systems, and special hazard systems.
  • Diagnose and repair faults in fire detection and alarm systems (NFPA 72), including wiring, sensors, and control panels.
  • Inspect, service, and maintain fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, exit lights, and other safety equipment.
  • Reset and restore fire alarm and suppression systems after activations or impairments.
  • Support mill operations during outages and breakdowns, providing mechanical expertise on fire safety equipment.
  • Assist with installation, commissioning, and functional testing of fire systems during projects.
  • Conduct fire prevention audits, confined space preplans and lead hot work program and permit issuance.
  • Deliver training sessions and mentor team members.
  • Ensure compliance with NFPA 25 and NFPA 72 standards through inspections and documentation.
  • Collaborate with contractors on major repairs to alarm and fire systems.
  • Work with Loss Prevention Team and insurance carriers to ensure identified issues are accurately addressed and implement corrective actions.
  • Coordinate emergency response plans and participate in drills to ensure readiness.
  • Perform basic mechanical and electrical tasks within the scope of the job.
  • Identify and mitigate potential hazards through proactive risk assessments and corrective actions.
  • Investigate incidents and prepare reports with recommendations for risk reduction and security improvements.
  • Respond to emergencies and act as incident command for volunteer fire and rescue department.
