About The Position

As the Asset Protection Lead, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding the company’s assets, ensuring a safe and secure work environment for our people, property, and products. Your primary responsibility will be to prevent financial loss, theft, and fraud throughout the company’s manufacturing facilities, engineering sites, parts distribution centers, and vehicle holding yards while maintaining a strong focus on customer service. You will use a variety of tools to minimize loss to the company, supporting programs that deter theft and loss. This position demands detail oriented, strong communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. You will interact with law enforcement, supporting their investigations. Lead and optimize mobile patrol operations across the company’s facilities, focusing on strategic deployment, threat mitigation, and real-time response. Responsible for designing patrol frameworks that align with client risk profiles and operational needs. The Asset Protection Lead performs professional-level work in the coordination, development, and implementation of Corporate Security’s intergovernmental relations program and represents the department’s interests with various government agencies and officials. Additional responsibilities include working as an advocate of the department’s positions, developing relationships with and serving as a liaison between government agencies and management, soliciting their input, and developing strategies to engage issues of importance.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in corporate security, with 2+ years in a leadership or strategic planning role.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with demonstrated experience in preparing after-action reports, threat management assessments, and site quality reviews.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Extensive experience collaborating with government agencies, public officials, and organizational leadership.
  • Exceptional observational skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to maintain composure under pressure and manage challenging situations with professionalism.
  • Solid technical aptitude with proficiency in utilizing security technologies and tools.
  • Proven ability to identify current and emerging security risks, develop and implement effective mitigation strategies, and allocate resources and budgets accordingly.
  • Experience leading crisis management teams, including hands-on involvement in emergency response situations and conducting training exercises using crisis management tools.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching, mentoring, and coaching both internal staff and external personnel.
  • Basic understanding of criminal law and legal procedures.
  • Familiarity with local laws and regulations pertaining to asset protection (subject to regional variations).
  • Availability to respond to crisis situations and urgent events on a 24/7 basis.
  • Experience in budget development and financial forecasting.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Experience with mobile security apps or digital incident reporting tools.
  • Up to 25% travel required outside of the Metro Detroit area in Michigan.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Criminal Justice, Security Management, or a related discipline.
  • Professional certification as a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) or Physical Security Professional (PSP).
  • Prior corporate security experience within a manufacturing environment, preferably automotive.
  • Experience working in a unionized or collective bargaining setting.
  • Extensive experience in the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of access control and closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems.
  • Demonstrated project management experience, including planning, execution, and cross-functional coordination.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of governmental organization and intergovernmental relations.
  • Experience working in diverse environments and promoting inclusive safety practices.

Responsibilities

  • Champion a culture of theft prevention by enhancing operational processes and protection standards.
  • Develop, implement, and communicate asset protection programs, initiatives, and strategies across the organization.
  • Conduct regular audits and asset protection activities in compliance with established policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Identify security vulnerabilities and recommend proactive measures to mitigate risks to personnel, assets, and facilities.
  • Respond promptly to security incidents, emergencies, and accidents, ensuring adherence to established protocols and coordination with law enforcement when necessary.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with site security teams and law enforcement agencies to address concerns and implement preventative measures.
  • Support criminal investigations related to major theft incidents and provide testimony or evidence in legal proceedings as required.
  • Collect and analyze intelligence to identify potential threats and communicate critical issues to prevent theft.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of security incidents, investigations, and assessments.
  • Assist with inventory management by conducting audits and reporting discrepancies to leadership.
  • Train, guide, and mentor site security personnel to ensure consistent performance and adherence to security protocols.
  • Deliver clear and effective oral and written presentations on security challenges and solutions.
  • Foster collaboration and effective communication across diverse teams and stakeholders, including government officials and internal leadership.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve access control system malfunctions and maintenance issues.
  • Remain on-call outside standard business hours to respond to emergency events and critical incidents.
  • Stay informed on emerging trends and technologies within the security industry.
  • Manage multiple projects with competing deadlines, exercising sound independent judgment.
  • Solve complex, multi-faceted problems with diplomacy and professionalism.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with government agencies, officials, and company leadership.
  • Develop data-driven patrol routes using risk assessments, incident history, and company priorities to ensure maximum coverage and deterrence.
  • Conduct regular vulnerability assessments of company facilities (buildings, parking lots, perimeter zones) and adjust patrol strategies accordingly.
  • Implement and manage GPS tracking, mobile reporting apps, surveillance systems, and AI-based analytics to enhance patrol efficiency and accountability.
  • Design and enforce SOPs for various incident types (unauthorized access, theft, vandalism, suspicious activity), including escalation paths and reporting timelines.
  • Collaborate with site security to understand evolving security needs and tailor patrol strategies to meet operational expectations.
  • Supervise mobile patrol officers and ensure adherence to strategic patrol plans.
  • Monitor patrol logs, GPS data, and incident reports for compliance and performance.
  • Conduct field audits and spot checks to validate patrol execution.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement and emergency services when required.
  • Maintain patrol vehicles and ensure readiness for deployment.
