About The Position

The Asset Protection Investigator role at Ocean State Job Lot (“OSJL” and “Company”) plays a vital role in safeguarding Company assets by supporting enterprise-wide asset protection initiatives. Support initiatives include, but are not limited to, analyzing video footage and point-of-sale data, generating detailed reports to identify training opportunities, reviewing eCommerce transactions to detect and address fraud, and, as needed, conducting safety, operational, and other audits. This role also serves as backup coverage for the corporate office’s operator desk, as needed.

Requirements

  • Experience with video surveillance systems.
  • Experience with Point of Sale exception reporting software, including, but not limited to, building filters and sub reports.

Nice To Haves

  • An Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or a related field is preferred.
  • 1 or more years of experience working within a loss prevention department is preferred.
  • Experience in a retail environment or distribution center is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google platform (i.e., Sites, Slides, Drive, Docs, Sheets).

Responsibilities

  • Review surveillance videos, prepare detailed reports to document the footage, and share reports with corporate and field teams.
  • Conduct comprehensive safety audits and, as needed, provide support for other business-related audits.
  • Investigate internal theft, develop cases, and enforce Company policies through video review and detailed report writing.
  • Conduct thorough video reviews to support claims investigations, Human Resources inquiries, and other authorized requests, ensuring accurate and detailed documentation.
  • Perform safety and security duties as needed including, but not limited to, warehouse and/or corporate office security, access control, and event support.
  • Support the Asset Protection department by analyzing video transactions and responding to inquiries from District Asset Protection Managers, Customer Service, and other internal business partners via phone calls and email.
  • Process chargebacks, returned checks, audit refunds, voids, tax-exempt sales, and deposits.
  • Utilize the Company’s loss and safety intelligence platform for report writing, store variance reconciliation, and record keeping.
  • Utilize rule-based fraud detection: Review eCommerce transactions to identify online fraud (i.e., account takeover, theft, friendly fraud).
  • Employ diverse investigative tools to investigate suspicious activity, analyze trends, report threats, and recommend mitigation.
  • Contact customers for fraud verification, validate data, and research refund disputes for Customer Service.
  • Respond to VeriFone PAYware and Cybersource inquiries and rectify any issues.
  • Responsible for covering the corporate office’s operator desk, as needed.
