What this job involves: The Data Center ALM Technician is an entry-level role responsible for supporting the day-to-day tracking, documentation, and lifecycle management of IT hardware assets in a mission-critical data center environment. This position involves assisting with receiving, inventory control, deployments, decommissions, and proper disposal of assets while following established procedures and compliance requirements to ensure accuracy of records and support the smooth flow of equipment through its full lifecycle.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent with strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn asset management software systems (CMDB, DCIM, ITSM tools)
  • Physical ability to lift equipment, work in data center environments, and perform manual handling tasks
  • Strong documentation skills and ability to maintain accurate records and chain-of-custody processes
  • Understanding of basic security protocols for handling sensitive IT equipment and data-bearing devices
  • Ability to follow detailed procedures and compliance requirements consistently
  • Reliable work ethic with capability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and on-call as needed

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree or technical certification in Information Technology or related field
  • Previous experience in warehouse operations, inventory management, or IT support roles
  • Basic knowledge of IT hardware components including servers, storage devices, and networking equipment
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems and asset tracking databases
  • Understanding of data center environments and safety protocols
  • Experience with barcode scanning systems or inventory management tools
  • Strong communication skills for coordinating with technical teams and vendors

Responsibilities

  • Assist with receiving, unpacking, labeling, and tagging of incoming IT equipment while updating asset records in management systems (CMDB, DCIM, ITSM tools)
  • Support regular physical audits of racks, storage areas, and spare parts to ensure data accuracy and track asset movements with proper check-in/out processes
  • Help with staging and preparing equipment for deployment into production environments and support decommissioning processes including hardware removal and disposal coordination
  • Follow data sanitization procedures for drives and storage devices under supervision while maintaining chain-of-custody documentation for all assets
  • Provide parts and spares to Break/Fix and Deployment teams upon request and log asset-related incidents or discrepancies in ticketing systems
  • Assist with warranty/RMA processing by coordinating with senior technicians or vendors
  • Follow corporate policies for secure handling, storage, and movement of data-bearing devices while ensuring documentation is audit-ready
