About The Position

The Assessment Specialist provides comprehensive assessment services to a caseload of homeless men referred to BRC’s Reaching New Heights. This role involves completing comprehensive intake assessments for new clients, entering demographic and personal information into the AWARDS database, and initiating client charting. The specialist also assists clients in obtaining benefits and identification, engaging in day treatment programs, and maintaining data in both AWARDS and DHS Cares. BRC is dedicated to helping New Yorkers experiencing homelessness achieve health and self-sufficiency, restoring hope and dignity. Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Computer proficiency required, especially with managing data bases and Excel Spreadsheets.
  • Experience working in residential treatment and with the homeless population.
  • CPR training certification or willingness to take training class in CPR.

Nice To Haves

  • A Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred
  • Knowledge of HRA and NY/NY application systems a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive assessment service to a caseload of homeless men referred to BRC’S Reaching New Heights.
  • Completing a comprehensive intake assessment of clients new to the shelter.
  • Responsible for entering all demographic and pertinent personal information in AWARDS data base and begin initial charting for new clients.
  • Obtaining benefits, identification, engagement in day treatment program and entering data into both AWARDS and DHS Cares.
  • Generate ongoing progress and group notes as well as monthly statistical reports.
  • Run monthly reports to ensure that all necessary client information is updated in AWARDS.
  • Participate in clinical team, case conference, and other staff meetings.
  • Assist with program staff coverage as needed.
  • Provide emergency first aid/CPR assistance when needed.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.
