About The Position

This Per Diem/PRN opportunity is for an Assessment Specialist - Registered Nurse at Emerald Coast Behavioral Hospital, which provides inpatient treatment services to adolescents and adults at our 86-bed facility in Panama City, FL, as well as outpatient services at three centers throughout the Florida Panhandle. The role involves performing triage, psychosocial screening, and evaluations of all patients presenting with psychiatric, behavioral, or substance abuse complaints. The Assessment Specialist will also initiate a collection and assessment of information for payers and work with utilization review.

Requirements

• Associates Degree in Nursing or Diploma RN.
• Previous experience in behavioral health preferred.
• Current FL RN License.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced Admissions Department.
• Ability to work 12-hour shifts, 6am-6:30pm or 6pm-6:30am.

Responsibilities

• Conduct telephone triage activities.
• Receive telephone inquiry and crisis calls and determine appropriate disposition for emergency services, clinical crisis assessment, and referral to community resources and/or agencies.
• Perform clinical crisis assessments on patients experiencing diverse mental health and/or substance abuse issues/disorders.
• Initiate crisis interventions to stabilize patient and/or family situations during the assessment process.
• Consult Nurse Supervisor when significant medical issues are identified.
• Assist in the collection of updated insurance and financial information.
• Verify insurance coverage and benefits.
• Utilize computer system to collect and enter core data elements such as authorization information.
• Inventory and document all patient valuables upon admission.
