About The Position

Emerging Tech is seeking an Assessment and Authorization (A&A) Analyst to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Electronic Health Record Modernization Integration Office (EHRM-IO). This role focuses on strengthening system security by reviewing and augmenting existing authorization packages, supporting system accreditation, and ensuring compliance across VA and Department of Defense (DoD) systems. As part of a collaborative team, the A&A Analyst will work alongside Information System Security Officers (ISSOs), system owners, and technical experts to develop, review, and maintain system security documentation. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of federal cybersecurity standards and a passion for supporting large-scale modernization initiatives impacting Veterans nationwide.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of information security concepts, processes, and policy implementation.
  • Experience applying security controls and risk management across the information system lifecycle.
  • Ability to solve complex technical problems across diverse system environments.
  • Understanding of critical vs. non-critical systems and network dependencies.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or a related technical field (8 years of relevant experience may substitute for degree requirements).

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience supporting VA security or accreditation efforts.
  • Experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems implementation or modernization initiatives.
  • Familiarity with federal security frameworks such as NIST RMF and FedRAMP.

Responsibilities

  • Review and enhance system security documentation, including System Security Plans (SSPs) and associated artifacts.
  • Support security assessments and authorization processes within the VA and DoD environments.
  • Collaborate with ISSOs, system owners, and cross-functional teams across VA, DHA, DISA, and other partner organizations.
  • Track change requests, validate technical and security requirements, and escalate issues as necessary.
  • Participate in meetings, maintain detailed notes, and ensure accurate documentation of discussions and decisions.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of security processes and templates.
