About The Position

The Assembly Technician plays a key role on Advantech’s production team, responsible for accurately and efficiently assembling board level and system-level products. This includes installing PC boards, peripherals, components, and cabling into chassis according to engineering drawings, CTO files, and production work instructions. The position ensures all products meet strict quality requirements, support on-time production schedules, and comply with safety and regulatory standards (ISO, ESD, 5S).

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED in a technical/scientific field required; college education preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in complex computer hardware assembly or a related manufacturing environment.
  • Relevant certifications or training in product assembly or computer-related fields; experience with electronics or PCBA assembly is a plus.
  • Proficient in using basic mechanical assembly tools, including hand tools, power drivers, and torque drivers.
  • Ability to read and follow detailed technical instructions, SOPs, and BOMs.
  • Strong attention to detail, quality, and accuracy.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong multitasking and time management skills to handle changing production schedules.
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, kneel, and reach with hands and arms regularly.
  • Capability to lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 35 lbs.; team assistance required for heavier items.
  • Must wear back support belt for tasks involving lifting over 35 lbs.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Willingness to travel and provide offsite support when required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical, subassembly, and complex chassis assembly tasks independently following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and OEM/CTO files.
  • Read and follow engineering drawings, assembly diagrams, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • Verify materials, part numbers, and quantities prior to assembly to prevent errors.
  • Utilize hand tools, power tools, and torque equipment proficiently to assemble systems according to specifications.
  • Perform visual and hardware quality inspections before, during, and after assembly to validate workmanship.
  • Conduct power-on & necessary testing to ensure products meet required operational specifications and standards.
  • Perform basic rework (component replacement, cable routing corrections, alignment adjustments) and hardware upgrades/modifications based on Engineering Change Orders (ECOM) or customer requests.
  • Accurate record assembly status, Work in Progress (WIP) updates, and non-conformance information in the Manufacturing Execution System (MES).
  • Strict adherence to ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) procedures, safety rules, 5S workplace practices, and ISO procedures.
  • Identify process abnormalities or potential issues and escalate them to team leaders / supervisors; support initiatives to improve assembly quality and efficiency.
  • Coordinate with team members, Production Engineering (PE) teams, and management to address assembly issues and meet quality targets.
