About The Position

The primary responsibility of the Assembly Refitter is to disassemble and refit assembly parts. Must be capable of performing all Assembler tasks and maintain the required pace to meet all assembly line production standards. May act in a lead or training role and will perform under minimum supervision.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • One year in a Production Assembly role preferred.
  • Knowledge of Shop math and blueprint reading.
  • Problem solving/troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience in production/manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques with emphasis on Standardized Work, Continuous Improvement, 5S, and JIT principles
  • Ability to stand, stoop, bend and lift from the floor, walk, reach frequently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed both daily and weekends.
  • Must be able to complete other duties as assigned by Production Team Lead.

Responsibilities

  • Disassembles, troubleshoots, and repairs all rejected steering gear units from the test department.
  • Performs any basic and complex assemblies that may be required to maintain the necessary production levels.
  • Responsible for diagnosing a problem when parts do not fit together properly; Minimizes refit problems by communicating with assembly and test stand supervisors and by participating in monthly refit meetings, as required.
  • Interprets “product structure” carefully to ensure proper parts are installed into power steering unit.
  • Maintains tools and equipment used and keeps work area in a clean and orderly manner; uses cleanup time given during shift to achieve this task.
  • Perform basic tool and machine maintenance including checking oil levels and minor repairs.
  • Responsible for providing support in bottleneck areas to keep assembly flow moving and to assure maximum efficiency.
  • Adhere to established safety procedures and 5 “S ” standards (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize and Sustain the cycle) required to perform daily duties in this position, including the proper techniques used in lifting/moving of parts.
  • Select component parts to assemble in accordance with the blue prints or instructions, inspect parts for damage and/or imperfections.
  • Ensure tolerances are accurate by using the appropriate indicators such as gages, micrometers, dimentionaire, plug gages, air tools, hand torque, wrenches, job blocks and/or V-blocks.
  • Operate machines required for pre-assembly operations including CNC machines, thrust washer machines, vertical drills, man-o-meters, parts washers, drill presses and Pressure Relief Valve (PRV) setting machines.
  • Assemble and fasten components according to plans, maintaining required quality standards.
  • Coordinate parts using an assembly schedule.
  • Visually inspect assembled products to identify component and product issues and inform the supervisor as needed.
  • Perform basic tool and machine maintenance including checking oil levels and minor repairs.
  • Trains employees in assembly positions, as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.
