Dexter is the premier manufacturer and supplier of axles, suspension, brakes, doors, venting products, trailer parts, accessories, and towing components serving the commercial trailer, RV, heavy-duty, marine, agriculture, and manufactured housing markets. The company has an opportunity for an Assembly Operator at its manufacturing facility located in Elkhart, Indiana. The employee will be working on a team while assembling parts on an axle assembly line in a fast-paced environment. This position will involve various assembly processes and the use of hand tools and material handling equipment.

  • Builds axles through different processes including feeding, stripping, hand twisting, crimping, and heat shrinking wires.
  • Fastens brakes using an impact wrench.
  • Installs hubs by clipping wires and torquing nuts.
  • Places clips and tests brakes on Spindle nut runner.
  • Installs and checks springs and hardware.
  • Installs caps using an impact gun, inserting the plug, tightening the nuts with a nut runner.
  • Moves axle to staging area by using a forklift and other material handling equipment.
  • Verifies shop orders and paint certification marks.
  • Stacks and bands axles to prepare for shipment.
  • Lifts up to 35 pounds and performs physical tasks such as standing, reaching, balancing, stretching, grasping, pinching, and fine manipulation.
  • Great communication skills.
  • Collaborative, safety conscious team player.
  • Prior manufacturing experience working on assembly line preferred, not required.
  • Hand tool experience is a plus - grease gun, torque setter, air hammer, impact gun, heat gun, tape measure, wire strippers, pneumatic crimper, nut driver, nut runner gun.
  • High school diploma or equivalency preferred, but not required.
