Assembly, Integration, and Test Technician Overview Energy is a mission-driven team committed to delivering space-based solar power to the world. The Role We are seeking a highly skilled AIT Engineering Technician to join our manufacturing team. This individual will be responsible for machining, assembling, and fabricating high-precision, tight-tolerance components and tooling for mechanisms, actuators, and deployable systems. The ideal candidate has experience working with complex mechanical assemblies and excels at developing custom tooling and fixturing to support intricate fabrication and assembly processes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience as a machinist with demonstrated expertise in component fabrication
  • Proven expertise in machining high-tolerance components
  • Proficiency in CNC programming and operation from setup through execution, using industry-standard software such as Mastercam or Fusion 360
  • Strong understanding of materials and cutting techniques used in aerospace applications, including titanium, aluminum alloys, stainless steels, and composites
  • Demonstrated ability to design and fabricate custom tooling and fixturing to support complex machining and assembly processes
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from engineering drawings, GD&T specifications, and detailed technical documentation with precision and accuracy
  • Excellent organizational and documentation skills

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree, technical certificate, or completion of an apprenticeship program in machining, manufacturing, or a related field
  • Experience working with aerospace hardware, flight-qualified mechanisms, or deployable systems in development or production environments
  • Familiarity with AS9100 quality standards and aerospace documentation practices
  • Start-up experience with direct founder involvement and exposure to fast-paced product development and cross-functional collaboration

Responsibilities

  • Precision machining and fabrication: Transform engineering designs into production-ready parts using CNC programming, manual mills, lathes, and precision grinders to produce aerospace-grade components with exact tolerances.
  • Custom tooling: Design and fabricate custom tooling and fixtures to support precision machining, assembly, and testing.
  • Quality verification: Perform detailed inspections using precision metrology tools (CMM, micrometers, calipers) to ensure all parts meet dimensional and quality requirements.
  • Process improvement: Contribute to the development and refinement of manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, repeatability, and quality.
