About The Position

Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) is seeking to provide students of Boeing Pre-Employment Training (BPET) certified courses with the opportunity to join our 787 production teams working as an Aircraft Assembly Electrical or System Mechanic to support the 787-production system in North Charleston, South Carolina on a variable shift. Your BPET Instructor Endorsement Form will outline the specific roles for which your course qualifies you for a direct offer of employment. Following your application, a Boeing recruiter will reach out to discuss these roles and ensure a smooth transition into your new role. This role offers an exciting opportunity within a dynamic manufacturing assembly environment. Team members will leverage their prior experience, along with the knowledge gained through foundational training and certifications, to complete daily assigned tasks safely and with quality. Individuals will be responsible for identifying parts and tooling within their work locations on advanced airplanes by interpreting technical drawings to accurately complete detailed work instructions. Attention to detail and strict compliance with procedures are critical to correctly identify all necessary hand tools, parts, and equipment required to ensure defect-free work. This position is physically demanding, and employment is contingent upon successful completion of foundational training requirements. Requirements

  • Be a student or recent graduate of a Boeing Pre-Employment Training course that is certified for the BPET Assembly Systems Mechanic role.
  • Ability to work a variable shift as noted further below.
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the role such as flexion and extension (head bent down, head bent back), handling, kneeling, bending at the waist, reaching overhead, rotation of head/neck, standing, twisting at the waist and walking, climbing/balancing (stairs, ladders, poles, scaffolding, inclined surfaces), crawling, crouching (squatting).
  • Ability to lift/carry up to 10-35 pounds.
  • Ability to work with high-hazard chemicals.
  • Ability to complete and maintain Confined Space and Fall Protection certifications, as required.
  • Experience using software applications such as internet navigation, email, Microsoft Office Suite, and/or other specialized computer applications.
  • Experience following detailed work instructions, reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, or specifications, in English.
  • Experience applying mathematical calculations.
  • Experience in a technical, or mechanical field performing work with basic hand, power, and/or pneumatic (air) tools.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining rigorous quality standards in all deliverables, ensuring that our work meets or exceeds expectations and complies with all regulatory and company requirements.
  • Must successfully complete the new hire foundational training to obtain and maintain all required certifications.
  • Proficient use of a computer in a dynamic production environment.
  • Look up/read/comprehend electronic technical work instructions, drawings and/or specifications.
  • Wear appropriate protective clothing/equipment determined by the task performed.
  • Operate various mechanical lifts (e.g. ladders, tiger and snorkel lifts).
  • Use various hand tools and diagnostic equipment such as screwdrivers, ratchets, power screwdriver multi meters, continuity testers.
  • Apply chemical solvents, sealants, coatings, primers, adhesives, paints and special finishes.
  • Inspect your work quality and check for Foreign Object Debris.
  • Work around energized sources (electrical equipment and hazards/shock, e.g. circuit breakers and wiring) and exposure to constant noise.
  • Finger manipulation (keyboarding, other).
  • Lifting and carrying up to 10-35 pounds.
  • Climbing/balancing (stairs, ladders, poles, scaffolding, inclined surfaces), crawling, crouching (squatting).
  • Flexion/Extension (head bent down, head bent back), handling, kneeling, bending at the waist, reaching (overhead), rotation of head/neck, standing, twisting at the waist and walking.
  • Install various aircraft system components and wiring such as: tubing, valves, regulators, actuators, compressors, ducts, and interior components.
  • Route wire harnesses to supports, install connectors to receptacles and electronic components.
  • Fiber optic clean and inspection, light loss testing, routing and installation.
  • Work in confined space and respirator usage.
