Assembler / Technician Company: Hitachi Particle Engineering and Services, Inc. Department: Manufacturing Location: Pleasanton, CA Status: Potential 6 months, temp-to-hire Company Information: Hitachi Particle Engineering and Services, Inc. is the world's leading commercial supplier of ion linear accelerator systems. We specialize in the development, production, installation and servicing of low-cost compact ion linear accelerators (linacs) using radiofrequency quadrupole (RFQ) linac and drift-tube linac (DTL) technology. Our company is dedicated to using this position of leadership to provide the highest quality and most reliable commercial ion linac systems to meet the needs of customers in medical, industrial, and research applications. HPES is located in Pleasanton, CA as well as 5 Service Maintenance sites – Mayo Clinic Rochester, MN, Mayo Clinic, Phoenix, AZ, MD Anderson, Houston, TX, St. Jude’s Children Hospital, Memphis, TN and John Hopkins Medical, Washington, DC. SUMMARY: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Assembler/Technician to join our team. The Manufacturing Assembler / Technician role will assemble or create sub-assemblies of electronic components and final products. The ideal candidate is experienced, has excellent communication skills, energetic, and is reliable. Understand the importance of working in a team environment but can also work independently with little supervision. Must have a sense of urgency in completing tasks.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED required. Associate degree preferred.
  • At least 3-5 years of electrical assembly or electrical technician experience or a combination of electrical assembly experience.
  • Strong ability to read schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Prior hands-on experience assembling electrical equipment.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs and stand for long periods of time.
  • Must maintain a safe work environment by adhering to all safety procedures including those which govern the handling of materials, chemicals, tools, and equipment.
  • Able to effectively communicate with other functional departments, such as Engineering, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and Sales departments.
  • Possess effective organization and time management skills, be detail oriented, use good judgment, manage competing priorities for multiple projects and consistently meet all deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Position requires use of hand tools to perform a wide variety of electronic or electro-mechanical assembly operations on assemblies or sub-assemblies.
  • Responsible and accountable for producing quality work to prescribed standards, with a focus on continuous improvement to meet customer commitments on schedule and within budget.
  • Determines and/or follows methods and sequence of operations in performing wiring, component installation, hand soldering and cable harnessing, and fitting on assembly units.
  • Performs any combination of following tasks to assemble electronic components or sub-assemblies
  • Performs highly complex electrical assemblies, reads work orders, follows production drawings and sample assemblies, or receives verbal/written instructions with minimal supervision.
  • Positions and aligns parts in specified relationships to each other in jig, fixture, or other holding device.
  • Crimps, screws, bolts, solders, press fits, or performs similar operations to join or secure parts in place, using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment.
  • Mounts assembled components, such as resistors, transistors, capacitors, integrated circuits, and sockets, on chassis panels.
  • Performs on-line go-not-go testing and inspection, using magnifying devices, measuring instruments, and electronic test equipment, to ensure parts and assemblies meet production specifications and standards.
  • Performs inspections of electrical assemblies to ensure they match assembly drawing, schematic and work instructions.
  • Incorporates problem solving and process improvements into workflow.
  • May conduct quality inspections on processing lines in accordance with quality specifications.
  • May disassemble, modify, rework, and reassemble assemblies and subassemblies according to specifications.
  • Interpret CAD drawings and instructions and follow established procedures.
  • Performs moderate to semi‐complex assembly/test functions utilizing mechanical skills, hand and power tools, mechanical/electronic tools, test equipment, assembly fixtures, and inspection measurement equipment in a manufacturing environment.
  • Verifies accuracy of test stand and setup prior to testing and makes necessary adjustments to attain specified test results.
  • Troubleshoots and reworks malfunctions disclosed by test data.
  • May interface with manufacturing engineering and production control to relay product problems and progress of work.
  • Ensures all equipment is calibrated in accordance with calibration schedule.
  • Perform required acceptance testing in accordance with approved Acceptance Test Procedures or other engineering documents with Engineering assistance, if necessary.
  • As needed, perform additional duties and tasks as assigned by your supervisor or manager.

Pay is determined based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, depth of experience in the practice area.
