Position Summary The Cutter plays a key role in supporting the Sewing Department by accurately cutting upholstery materials, fabrics, vinyl, and leather to specified patterns and dimensions. This position ensures that high-quality materials are prepared for sewing and assembly, directly contributing to the craftsmanship and finish of Midwest Automotive Design luxury vans.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior experience in cutting, upholstery, or textile work preferred, especially in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret patterns, templates, and measuring tools accurately.
  • Basic math and measurement skills required.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain consistency in repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to lift and handle materials up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods.
  • Team-oriented with good communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret work orders, templates, and cutting patterns to prepare materials for upholstery and sewing.
  • Accurately measure and cut materials (fabric, vinyl, leather, foam, etc.) using industrial cutting tools, shears, or automated cutting equipment.
  • Inspect materials for defects, inconsistencies, or flaws prior to cutting.
  • Organize and label cut pieces to maintain order and efficiency in the production process.
  • Maintain cutting templates and ensure proper storage of materials.
  • Communicate with sewing operators and upholstery staff to ensure proper material supply and cut accuracy.
  • Keep work area clean, organized, and compliant with all safety guidelines.
  • Assist with inventory counts of upholstery and fabric materials as required.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and quality standards.
