The production assembly team at Thorlabs Measurement Systems assembles precision, multiprobe video measurement systems, their subassemblies, and associated metrology products. This position operates among a diverse team of assemblers, technicians, and engineers, conducting daily assembly tasks under the guidance of experienced team members. While this position is based in Sparta, NJ, up to 10% travel may be required to customer locations and other Thorlabs sites.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of prior experience in a similar position required.
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to interpret, follow, edit, and provide feedback on written work instructions.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organization skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and comply with high quality standards.
  • Ability to function autonomously with minimal supervision.
  • Flexibility/adaptability in a fast-paced & dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to understand written and oral procedures for a wide range of products, subassemblies, and system builds.
  • Executes assigned builds within the required timeframe, to the highest of quality standards, and in compliance with the specified build procedure and Bill of Materials.
  • Conducts Quality Control inspections as specified in the written or oral procedures.
  • Assists with documenting and improving build procedures at the direction of the production manager.
  • Communicates discrepancies between procedures and the Bill of Materials when identified, to ensure inventory is accurate and corrective actions are implemented.
  • Assists assembly technicians with final adjustments and calibration of systems.
  • Requests clarification from the appropriate personnel when instructions are not clear or understood.
  • Assists in inventory cycle-counting as required and notifies supervisor of low stock levels.
  • Cross-trains other employees on mastered builds, to provide flexibility and support across production operations.
  • Meeting company standards pertaining to quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis, performing all work-related tasks in a manner that follows all Company policies and procedures.
  • Adhering to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and assignments.
