THIS IS A CITYWIDE RECRUITMENT FOR CURRENT CITY EMPLOYEES ONLY. This is an Exempt to Permanent position in accordance with Class-Based Test (CBT) Civil Service Rules. This recruitment is restricted to current exempt employees of the City and County of San Francisco, San Francisco Unified School District, or San Francisco City College, working within the 7502 Asphalt Worker classification and only those who meet this requirement will be placed on the eligible list for consideration of future permanent position. Under supervision, the essential functions of the Asphalt Worker include: removing old pavement material; preparing surfaces for repair; spreading, compacting and smoothing hot asphaltic material and other road resurfacing applications in connection with street maintenance and repair projects; and operating asphalt kettle and / or automatic emulsion spray rake and tool heater. Performs related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Current Category 16, 17, or 18 Exempt Employee in Class 7502 who has worked at least 2,080 hours in class 7502
• One (1) year of verifiable experience in construction and/or street paving and repair work as an asphalt worker
• Possession of a valid driver's license at the time of hire

Responsibilities

• Removes old pavement and prepares surface for repaving including the use of pneumatic tools.
• Prepares surface for asphaltic mixture by "painting".
• Shovels, rakes, spreads hot asphaltic material in the repair or resurfacing of streets.
• Compacts & smooths asphaltic patches by rolling.
• Operates asphalt kettle and / or automatic emulsion spray rake and tool heater.
• Places and removes barricades and cleans up job site upon completion of work.
