About The Position

The Asphalt Screedman is responsible for operating and controlling the screed portion of an asphalt paving machine to ensure proper depth, grade, and smoothness of asphalt surfaces.

Requirements

One or more years’ experience in asphalt paving preferred
Valid driver’s license
Experience operating screed controls on commercial or highway projects
Ability to read grades and understand project plans
Knowledge of asphalt paving techniques and compaction processes
Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship
Valid driver’s license preferred
OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 or other safety certifications preferred but not required
High School Diploma or GED required
Must be able to successfully pass a background and drug screening.

Responsibilities

Operate and control the screed on an asphalt paving machine
Adjust screed height, crown, and width to meet project specifications
Ensure proper mat thickness, slope, and smoothness
Monitor asphalt temperature and consistency during placement
Work closely with the Paver Operator and Foreman to maintain proper paving speed and material flow
Check grade and alignment using string lines, lasers, or grade controls
Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of screed equipment
Assist with raking, shoveling, and other general paving duties as needed
Follow all safety procedures and company policies
Must wear proper attire at all times including PPE
May be required to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekends
Additional duties as assigned.
