About The Position

We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Asphalt Screed Operator to join our paving crew. The Asphalt Screed Operator will be responsible for operating the screed machine to lay asphalt evenly and efficiently in parking lots, driveways, and other projects. This role requires precision, awareness of asphalt conditions, and teamwork to achieve the proper desired pavement thickness and meet project specifications. The ideal candidate will contribute to high-quality paving outcomes while maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.

Requirements

  • Experience: 1–2 years of experience operating asphalt screed machine or similar heavy equipment preferred; knowledge of asphalt paving processes is required.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to sit for extended periods, operate hand and foot controls, lift up to 50 lbs., and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Skills: Proficiency in operating asphalt screed machines with precision; basic understanding of asphalt behavior and compaction principles; ability to follow instructions and communicate effectively.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred; on-the-job training may be provided for candidates with related experience.
  • Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license required. Must meet insurability standard. The ability to tow trailers or transport equipment is a plus.
  • Additional Requirements: Ability to pass a drug test as part of a drug-free workplace policy.
  • Phone: Must have cell phone to clock in and out daily, log jobs, and follow other company communications.

Responsibilities

  • Screed Operation: Operate and control the asphalt screed machine to lay asphalt mix uniformly according to project plans and specifications, including sports courts.
  • Monitoring: Screed temperature, speed, and alignment to ensure consistent pavement thickness and smoothness.
  • Quality Control: Inspect the asphalt surface for defects like cracks or uneven areas, reporting issues to the foreman for corrective action.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform daily inspections, fueling, cleaning, and greasing of machinery, and report mechanical issues to supervisors promptly.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and remain alert to crew positions and job site hazards, such as traffic or equipment.
  • Team Coordination: Work closely with the paver operator, roller operator, and laborers to maintain a steady workflow and ensure timely completion of paving tasks.
  • Seasonal Duties: Assist with snow removal and de-icing during winter months.
  • Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license required. Must meet insurability standard. The ability to use trailers or transport equipment is a plus.
  • Other: Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
