About The Position

The Quality Control Roadway Technician position at Preferred Materials - Asphalt Division involves conducting tests on Hot Mix Asphalt and component materials to ensure compliance with applicable specifications. The role requires current FDOT Roadway Levels I and II certification and includes responsibilities related to aggregate testing, roadway construction testing, and maintaining a test result database. The technician will also assist in mixture adjustments and lay down operations, contributing to the overall quality of roadway and civil construction projects.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Current FDOT Roadway Levels I and II certification.
  • Ability to understand and carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Knowledge of mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, percentages, and weights.
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical manuals.
  • Proficiency in reading and using measuring devices.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Punctuality and ability to start work on time.
  • Valid driver's license for the territory of operation.

Nice To Haves

  • Current Asphalt Roadway Level I, II, and III certification.
  • College engineering degree or technical school diploma.
  • 1-2 years of experience in the heavy highway or paving industry.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct tests on Hot Mix Asphalt and component materials to determine compliance with specifications.
  • Perform aggregate testing and HMA production testing, including sampling and aggregate gradation.
  • Conduct roadway construction testing, including temperature, layer thickness, and compacted in-place density.
  • Maintain a test result database and input data accurately.
  • Drive a pickup truck or passenger vehicle as required.
