About The Position

APAC AL, Inc., part of CRH's South Division, is a leading supplier of quality asphalt and Construction Services in the Southeastern U.S., with operations in Alabama. Working with government agencies, private contractors, counties and municipalities, we produce millions of tons of quality construction materials and pave many miles of highways every year. Our highly skilled workforce strives to deliver the highest quality products and services in a safe, timely and efficient manner, on every project. This is a skilled position controlling production and load out of materials produced in plants. This position will work mostly in the Montgomery area. The plant operator is responsible for the efficient working condition of plant equipment and is expected to perform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major problems to the supervisor.

Requirements

• Ability to perform preliminary walk around survey of plant's crushing equipment.
• Capability to identify maintenance problems and preventive maintenance items.
• Ability to move levers to regulate flow of materials.
• Experience in initiating plant's start-up and shutdown process.
• Proficiency in navigating computer systems for operational tasks.
• Commitment to safety for crew members and public.
• Ability to visually monitor critical gauges and computer information.
• Experience in assisting with preventive maintenance and repairs.
• Strong communication skills with all levels of the organization.
• Proactive troubleshooting skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform preliminary walk around survey of plant's crushing equipment.
• Identify maintenance problems, preventive maintenance items, worn equipment parts, emissions controls, and any housekeeping items.
• Regulate flow of materials to and from conveyors, chutes, pumps, or storage bins.
• Initiate the entire plant's start-up and shutdown process.
• Navigate through computer screens to complete start-up, shutdowns, troubleshoot, retrieve reports, and electronically submit when the system allows for electronic communication.
• Ensure safety of crew members and public who may interact at jobsite.
• Visually observe and monitor critical gauges and computer generated information to maximize plant productivity.
• Assist in preventive maintenance and plant repairs, including lubrications and the entire clean-up process.
• Assist other operators or maintenance personnel when heavy or awkward duties are required.
• Communicate with all levels of the organization about the plant, its components, needs, issues, and enhancements for efficiency gains.
• Provide accurate and timely information about the plant's daily operating performance.
• Pro-active in troubleshooting and maintain work environment without compromising regulations, quality of products, or safe work practices.
