About The Position

For 50 years, Byrne & Jones Construction has been St. Louis' premier commercial asphalt paving company, specializing in large-scale roadway, parking lot, and site development projects. Our team takes pride in delivering high-quality work, maintaining a strong safety culture, and keeping our fleet in top operating condition. We are seeking an experienced Paving Superintendent to oversee and manage asphalt prep and paving operations from start to finish. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on knowledge of asphalt paving and milling, including a solid understanding of paving slopes, grades, and the means and methods required to deliver high-quality, efficient, and safe paving projects. This role requires strong leadership in the field, coordination with crews, and project management, as well as a commitment to quality and production.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Paving Superintendent or similar leadership role
  • Extensive experience with asphalt paving operations
  • Strong understanding of paving slopes, grades, and transitions
  • Thorough knowledge of paving laydown, compaction, and production sequencing
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Commitment to jobsite safety and quality workmanship

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ years of asphalt paving supervision experience
  • Experience managing multiple crews or large-scale paving projects

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate all asphalt paving, milling, and prep operations on assigned projects
  • Plan and execute paving activities, including layout, sequencing, and production goals
  • Ensure proper implementation of paving means and methods, including grade control, slopes, and transitions
  • Read and interpret plans, specifications, and grades to ensure accurate paving
  • Lead and manage paving crews, including foremen, operators, and laborers
  • Coordinate with project managers, estimators, subcontractors, and suppliers
  • Monitor quality control, ensuring finished work meets specifications and company standards
  • Enforce safety policies and ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety requirements
  • Troubleshoot field issues and make real-time adjustments to maintain productivity and quality
  • Maintain equipment coordination and communicate maintenance needs
