This position is responsible for supervising the paving crew and asphalt paving operations on both public and private work to ensure the highest quality product and service. The supervisor will oversee and coordinate the activities of workers engaged in spreading, rolling, tamping, and patching asphalt or similar materials to form surfaces of highways, streets, parking lots, and driveways. The role requires a strong emphasis on safety, ensuring a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures while using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task at hand. The supervisor will provide overall on-site leadership on construction project sites, actively participating in and promoting a safety culture. This includes providing direction, training, and assistance to the asphalt crew, measuring slope and material thickness to verify compliance with contracts, and supervising the job effectively. Daily communication with the Project Manager or Project Superintendent is essential to discuss schedules and production needs. The supervisor will also be responsible for completing necessary paperwork, including daily crew time sheets, daily site evaluation sheets, and weekly toolbox safety meeting sheets. Effective communication and collaboration with state and local agencies, inspectors, contractors, subcontractors, company management, and employees are crucial for the successful completion of projects in a timely, accurate, and safe manner. Additionally, the supervisor may be required to operate other heavy equipment and perform other construction-related duties as needed.
