Requirements
Knowledge of American Sign Language
Knowledge of proper English
Proficient in ASL
Organizational skills
Ability to work varied work schedules to include weekdays, weeknights and weekends.
Ability to dress in solid colored clothing for visually appropriate sign language background.
Ability to write in complete sentences using appropriate words and correct grammar.
Ability to compile, research or refer students to articles videotapes and/or other resources.
Ability to provide clerical support using MS Office
Ability to communicate with students, staff and the general public in a courteous manner.
Associate degree from an accredited institution or completion of college-level American Sign Language program or in-service training. Native speakers must have completed at least one year of college.
Two (2) years of directly related experience required.
This position is Security Sensitive, therefore, candidates will be subject to a criminal background check.
Responsibilities
Serve as a live ASL model and provide cultural and grammatical reinforcement outside of class.
Maintain and compile computerized data on lab hours used by credit, non-credit students and community members each semester.
Organize and obtain ASL articles, videotapes and other practice resources.
Produce in-house video texts for student ASL receptive skills and interpreting practice.
Perform clerical duties to include but not limited to typing, preparing video quizzes using word processor, duplicating, filing, writing and operating video recording equipment.
Keep up-to-date on changes in policies and procedures to maintain current working knowledge and to provide accurate information and/or assistance to students, staff, and faculty in a timely and courteous manner.
Perform other duties as assigned.
