About The Position

This posting is to establish a pool of qualified applicants. SAS may not be actively recruiting. Applications submitted will remain active for up to one (1) year. SAS ASL Interpreters receive technical and functional direction from the SAS Interpreting Services Specialist. SAS ASL Interpreters will provide interpreting services for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing individuals.

Requirements

  • Interpreting/Transliterating Level 0: High School Diploma and completion of an ASL Ethics Course.
  • Interpreting/Transliterating Level I: 0-2 yrs of experience, a High School Diploma, completion of an ASL Ethics Course, and an ASL Interpreting evaluation.
  • Interpreting/Transliterating Level II: 2-4 yrs of experience, a High School Diploma, completion of an ASL Ethics Course, and an ASL Interpreting evaluation.
  • Interpreting/Transliterating Level III: 4-5 years of experience, a High School Diploma, completion of an ASL Ethics Course, and an ASL Interpreting evaluation.
  • Interpreting/Transliterating Level IV: 5-6 years of experience, a High School Diploma, completion of an ASL Ethics Course, and an ASL Interpreting evaluation.
  • Interpreting/Transliterating Level V: RID Certification, or completion of RID written test and an ASL Interpreting evaluation, or EIPA Level 4/5 and an ASL Interpreting evaluation.
  • Submit to and successfully pass DOJ live scan/fingerprinting.
  • Sealed official transcript(s) in envelope from institution or electronic copies emailed directly from institution (for positions with higher education requirement)
  • Tuberculosis (TB) risk assessment
  • Other pre-employment requirements may be required depending on the position (i.e. certifications or licenses; see job posting qualifications section for details).

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of an Interpreter Training Program (all levels)
