Position Summary: Provide American sign language (ASL) interpretation for clinicians, people we serve, and staff for WellPower in various settings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience of ASL interpretation.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Deaf culture.
  • Must have RID CI/CT, NIC or BEI certification or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with non-profit organizations, mental health or healthcare is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides ASL interpretation during various virtual and in-person meetings, conferences, trainings, and therapeutic interactions (counseling, case management) for clinical staff and the people we serve.
  • Maintain adherence to the RID and NCIHC codes of professional conduct and the role of the interpreter.
  • Serve as advocate and liaison between the Deaf, hard of hearing and Deaf/Blind communities and hearing providers.
  • Collaborate with Impact & Engagement department to provide ideas and feedback on how to make all services inclusive for the Deaf, hard of hearing and Deafblind people we serve and staff.
  • Work with providers who do not sign on best practices to ensure an inclusive and equitable experience for the Deaf, hard of hearing and Deafblind people we serve.
  • Assist the Language Services Manager with trainings specific to the Deaf, hard of hearing and Deafblind community.
  • Serve as back up interpreter scheduler, when needed.
  • Maintain a trauma informed environment of wellbeing.
  • Other duties as assigned.
