About The Position

Fairview is seeking an American Sign Language Interpreter in the Minneapolis/St. Paul Metro Area! This is a casual position that has a minimum of 30 hours available per month. This position is not benefit eligible. This role will work closely with the System Accessibility Coordinator for Fairview Health Services and support interactions at the executive level. The perfect candidate for this position will have a great understanding of language that is needed when discussing Accessibility, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Affordable Care Act 1557, Customer Service (customer experience) ideals, and high register dialogue. Also, they must have proficiency in managing high – level meetings involving multiple participants. American Sign Language Healthcare Interpreters provide communication access for all stakeholders involved in the healthcare encounter by providing meaningful, effective, and equitable communication via in-person or virtual platforms. This person will interpret accurately and completely, conveying the content and spirit of the original message, taking into consideration the cultural context in a way that is responsive to the demands of the situation, or the person(s) involved in the encounter (in person and/or video). Explains the scope of practice that is responsive to the demands of the situation. Ability to interpret complex concepts into ASL and voice into English. Ability to transliterate complex concepts. Manage in-person or virtual encounters promoting communicative autonomy. Alert all parties to any significant cultural or linguistic disparities appropriate to the goal of the encounter. This person must maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries. Adheres to RID Code of Professional Conduct. Demonstrates honest & ethical conduct according to Guiding Principles. Has firm understanding of HIPAA as it applies to the healthcare interpreter. Manages workflow with Epic, Microsoft Outlook, and Microsoft Teams. Must learn how to navigate and a variety of virtual platforms. Timely communication with scheduling office and administrative team. Adaptability: Travels to and provides interpreting services in multiple settings as needed/requested. Understands platforms including but not limited to in-person and/or virtual interpreting. Demonstrates personal flexibility to meet staffing and communication needs. Manages and communicates unanticipated changes throughout the day. Demonstrates ability to provide language services across a variety of disciplines.

Requirements

  • Associate of Science or equivalent education/experience or 5 years of experience in the interpreting profession.
  • Reliable transportation to perform work at various locations.
  • CSC (Comprehensive Skills Certificate) or CI and CT (Certificate of Interpretation and Certificate of Transliteration) or NAD: Level IV or higher or NIC (National Interpreter Certification) (previous rubric): Advanced or Master or NIC (most current rubric): Certified.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate of Applied Science in sign language interpreting or related field.
  • Healthcare interpreting experience.
  • Chemical dependency/Recovery interpreting experience.
  • Mental health interpreting experience: QMHI or Proven Mental Health Training.
  • Proven experience with DeafBlind community: Tactile communication, Protactile communication.
