About The Position

USNH Employees should apply within Workday through the Jobs Hub app Work with the ASL/English Interpreting program to provide instruction to students. Students enrolled in courses are pursuing ASL fluency and/or developing interpreting skills and knowledge. Familiarity with various platforms such as True Way ASL, GoReact, Canvas, Zoom/Teams and Outlook are needed. The position requires knowledge of American Sign language and its community of use, and/or theory and skills pertaining to the interpreting profession, and content and/or skills teaching methods. This is not considered essential staff.

Requirements

  • Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience: Teaching positions require a minimum of a bachelor's degree in related field and 2-3 years teaching experience at either a secondary or post-secondary setting, with a preference for post-secondary teaching experience.
  • Required Licenses & Certifications: Those teaching interpreting courses are required to hold active certification with Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: The position requires knowledge of American Sign language and its community of use, and/or theory and skills pertaining to the interpreting profession, and content and/or skills teaching methods.
  • Ability to maintain supportive communication with students being flexible with life demands while maintaining rigorous academic standards.

  • Membership in professional organizations such as RID, ASLTA, or NAD are encouraged.

Responsibilities

  • Course Planning and Teaching (70%): Develop a course plan or familiarize oneself with the existing course plan and student learning objectives. Create or adapt existing syllabus. Plan weekly class lessons and create or use existing activities. Provide students with timely feedback.
  • Grading and feedback (20%): Grade student work in a timely fashion and provide substantial feedback to support student learning.
  • Program communication (10%): Attend program meetings one to two times per semester. Maintain communication with the director, assistant director and other adjunct faculty as needed, including regular review of email correspondence.
