About The Position

The Registered Nurse - ASC OR/ARD is responsible for professional nursing care of the surgical or endoscopic patient and to achieve total patient centered care through use of the nursing process.

Requirements

• Graduate of accredited school of nursing.
• Three to five (3-5) years of comparable nursing experience preferred.
• Licensure as an RN in the State of Illinois.
• PALS certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within six months of employment.
• ACLS certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within six months of employment.
• CPR certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Cross-train to work in other areas of the facility utilizing necessary nursing skills and techniques.
• Complete annual competencies for specific working area within designated month.
• Greet patients and instruct them in changing into appropriate attire.
• Complete pre-operative assessment, document on appropriate chart forms, and administer pre-op orders (i.e. medications, IV's).
• Provide pre-operative teaching to patients and significant others.
• Consult with other members of the health care team regarding patient care.
• Assess and monitor the patient during Phase I Recovery as a Post-Anesthesia Care Nurse.
• Complete applicable records and administer medications as ordered.
• Ready the carts and restock supplies as needed.
• Transfer patients to Phase II Recovery when sufficiently recovered from anesthesia following protocol.
• Assess and monitor the patient during Phase II Recovery.
• Complete necessary chart forms and assist patients in preparing for discharge.
• Give home instructions with patient education materials.
• Discharge the patient per orders of the surgeon to a responsible person.
• Maintain the facility in a neat and orderly manner at all times.
• Restock supplies daily and check crash cart, defibrillator, and medications.
• Complete post-op phone calls as needed.
• Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures.
• Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required.
• Provide excellent customer service and adhere to Springfield Clinic's Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards.
• Perform other job duties as assigned.
