About The Position

An Asbestos Supervisor supervises crews of Asbestos Workers, other crafts, and helpers engaged in the removal, installation, and disposal of insulating materials from structures, equipment, or areas; supervises crews engaged in the containment, removal, and disposal of hazardous materials, such as asbestos and lead, from structures, equipment or areas; applies sound supervisory fundamentals and techniques in building and maintaining an effective workforce; and fulfills equal employment opportunity responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Four years of full-time paid experience as an Asbestos Worker with the City of Los Angeles; or
  • Ten years of full-time paid experience as an asbestos worker or insulator performing insulation or asbestos-type work; or Completion of recognized Asbestos Worker or Insulator apprenticeship and four years of full-time paid experience as a Foreman, General Foreman, or Superintendent in the field of asbestos or insulation work.
  • Applicants who lack six months or less of the required experience at the time of filing may file for this examination. However, they cannot be appointed until the full experience requirement is met.
  • As a condition of employment, a valid Class C driver's license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is required. Applicants will be disqualified and candidates will not be eligible for hire if their DMV record within the last 36 months reflects three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents, or a conviction of a major moving violation such as DUI or DWI in any state or jurisdiction. Notice of disqualification or ineligibility for hire may be issued by the City of Los Angeles at any time before a final job offer is extended.
  • Incumbents must be trained and maintain certification as an "Asbestos Supervisor/Worker" in the handling, decontamination, and disposal of hazardous materials such as asbestos and lead. The Department of Water and Power authorizes and provides this training through third-party vendors.
