About The Position

Arlington County Sheriff's Office is recruiting for a part-time, temporary instructor position (bilingual-English/Spanish) in alcohol and drug safety. The Alcohol Safety Action Program (ASAP) Instructor will deliver an approved curriculum to alcohol and drug offenders on behalf of Arlington County’s Alcohol Safety Action Program (ASAP). The employee will utilize various instructional methods to deliver a pre-specified and established curriculum, complete required feedback reports regarding attendance, participation and progress of each class participant and provide reports to the Director and respective ASAP Case Manager.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in education, criminal justice, or similar field
  • Some experience in the areas of training, facilitation, mentoring, counseling, or similar field
  • Language proficiency: English and Spanish

Nice To Haves

  • Licensed as a clinical substance abuse counselor
  • Experience as a substance abuse counselor in an alcohol/drug treatment program
  • Classroom training experience

Responsibilities

  • Conducting weekly ASAP classes using State-approved educational curriculum to instruct both court-ordered and voluntary participants
  • Preparing lesson plans, lecturing on curriculum topics, and facilitating classroom discussions on curriculum topics
  • Leveraging appropriate and approved audio/visual materials to enhance lecture sessions
  • Remaining current with alcohol and drug use data and trends for utilization in classroom presentations and discussions
  • Providing classroom documentation to comply with VASAP requirements, including individual report and attendance tracking via an online education management system
  • Providing regular feedback to the Director and case managers on attendance, behavior and other client-related issues during the course sessions
  • Ensuring compliance with all requirements set forth by the Commission on VASAP
