About The Position

Cognizant is seeking an experienced AS/400 (IBM i) Application Engineer to support and enhance enterprise‑scale systems. The role involves designing, developing, and maintaining applications using RPGLE, CLLE, DB2/400, and AS/400 utilities, while working closely with cross‑functional teams in a hybrid work environment. Requirements

  • 7+ years of Strong hands‑on experience with AS/400 (IBM i) technologies, including AS/400 Utilities, CLLE, RPGLE, DB2/400, CLP, and RPG.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing complex technical solutions in an enterprise environment.
  • Proficiency in English, with strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team‑based, hybrid work model.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
  • Experience working in regulated or large‑scale enterprise environments.
  • Prior experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers.
  • Familiarity with modern modernization or integration initiatives on IBM i platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement robust AS/400 (IBM i) solutions to improve system performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure seamless integration of CLLE and RPGLE applications.
  • Analyse, tune, and optimize DB2/400 databases to enhance data retrieval, integrity, and storage efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain CLP scripts to automate routine operational tasks and streamline system processes.
  • Create, modify, and maintain applications using AS/400 RPG/RPGLE in alignment with business requirements.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for AS/400 systems to minimize downtime and ensure continuity of operations.
  • Document system architecture, technical designs, and operational procedures to support knowledge transfer and future enhancements.
  • Conduct code reviews and provide feedback to ensure adherence to coding standards, best practices, and quality guidelines.
  • Participate in project planning, estimation, and execution to ensure timely and cost‑effective delivery.
  • Stay current with emerging IBM i / AS/400 technologies and industry trends to drive continuous improvement.
  • Communicate effectively with technical and business stakeholders to gather requirements and provide status updates.
  • Ensure compliance with Cognizant policies, security standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to a collaborative, learning‑focused team environment.
