About The Position

The Reservoir Ranger Variable supports lake recreation operations by working assigned shifts, assisting with special events, training and mentoring other rangers, and performing general maintenance tasks as needed. This position serves as a knowledgeable and courteous representative of the Parks Department and receives day-to-day direction from the Parks Supervisor. This is a seasonal position: April - October.

Requirements

  • General knowledge of boats, trailers and Division of Wildlife State requirements.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, evenings, mornings and special events including the Kids Fishing Tournament and others as assigned as part of the Lake Recreation Program. Shifts vary but may work up to 40 hours per week during the season.
  • Ability to be mobile and able to work outdoors and in inclement weather with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work independently and/or with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to effectively communicate information, both verbally and in writing, to support organizational objectives and interact with all levels of personnel within the city in a positive and cooperative manner.
  • Must possess Stage 1 Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS) Watercraft Inspection and Decontamination certification through the Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
  • A valid Colorado driver’s license and acceptable driving record is required.
  • No Education Required
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Strenuous to extreme physical effort that includes frequent use of heavy objects (e.g., 50+ pounds) and may also use heavy tools or require strenuous application in awkward positions. Individuals in strenuous positions must successfully complete a physical examination to ensure their fitness for duty.
  • Marginal to moderate exposure to conditions that are unpredictable and may lead to injury.
  • Regular exposure to heat and noise along with working outside in the elements.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) or more years experience in lake recreation and general maintenance helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Checks guest bag limits along lake shore.
  • Performs general maintenance duties which includes trash pick-up, painting, etc.
  • Performs general paperwork.
  • Participates in teaching clinics, working with special interest groups and assisting the ranger coordinator.
  • Performs duties with a variety of personalities and ages of fellow employees.
  • Performs day to day activities, counting money, filling out log-in sheets, executing entrance/exit inspections of all boats and upholding the rules and regulations as defined in the City of Arvada personnel rules and regulations hand book.
  • Frequently operates a personal or City-owned motor vehicle to drive to and from work locations throughout the City.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Temporary, Variable Hour and Health Plan Eligible employees will earn 1 hour of sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum cap of 48 hours.
