About The Position

The Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University is seeking a full-time tenure-track faculty member to serve as the inaugural Arts in Health Endowed Chair. This position aims to develop a strategic vision for the school's arts in health initiative, focusing on improving health and well-being through direct arts engagement. The successful candidate will be an accomplished artist and educator with a strong background in interdisciplinary collaboration and community engagement.

Requirements

  • Terminal degree (MFA, DMA, or PhD) in the arts or relevant field or evidence of equivalent proficiency; ABD considered with degree conferral by September 1, 2025
  • Record of accomplishment in dance, filmmaking, music, theater, or visual art/design
  • Record of scholarship or creative activity in the field of arts in health
  • Demonstrated abilities in administrative leadership, organization, and supervision
  • At least three years of demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college level
  • Grant-writing record or potential to develop this skill

Responsibilities

  • Engage and excel in creative and professional activities relevant to the artistic focus of one of the MGSA departments
  • Foster interdisciplinary collaborations within the school and university to advance arts in health
  • Maintain an active line of inquiry related to the role of the arts in wellness
  • Lead the Arts in Health initiative at MGSA, including the Scarlet Arts Rx program
  • Collaborate with the School of Public Health and New Jersey Performing Arts Center to run the Arts in Health Research Lab
  • Supervise the Arts in Health Research Lab manager
  • Teach courses in the department of specialization
  • Develop an arts in health curriculum
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students
  • Engage in service activities within their department, the university, and the arts in health field
  • Participate in committees and other departmental/school responsibilities
