About The Position

The Arts & Crafts Camp Specialist at Camp Stony Brook Acres plays a vital role in creating and implementing a curriculum that aligns with the YMCA of Greater Springfield's values and mission. This position involves ensuring that the curriculum is accessible to campers of all ages and abilities, leading camp songs, and participating in camp spirit-based activities. The specialist will work closely with Camp Directors to facilitate various camp programs, maintain safety standards, and promote a cheerful environment. The role requires occasional weekend and overnight shifts, with a typical work schedule from Monday to Friday between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years old at the time of hire.
  • 2 years of experience in programming and camp operations or equivalent YMCA experience preferred.
  • 2 years of experience in program design and implementation preferred.
  • Must have or be working toward a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Must have or be willing to earn and maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications.
  • Ability to make sound judgment calls in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide organizational leadership and coaching.
  • Proven experience in teaching and directing diverse populations in youth enrichment programs.
  • Ability to role-model positive behaviors.
  • Ability to work in a high-value, potentially high-stress environment.
  • Exhibit core YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to swim, ride a bicycle, and work outdoors in various conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in related coursework (e.g., Education, Social Work, Ecology) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Create an Arts and Crafts based curriculum tailored to the age ranges served by the camp.
  • Ensure curriculum accessibility for campers of all ages and abilities.
  • Sing camp songs and participate in camp spirit-based activities.
  • Uphold YMCA values, practices, and policies.
  • Adhere to camp policies related to safety and local health regulations.
  • Support and implement camp programs including attendance, transportation, games, and swimming.
  • Maintain high standards for staff and programming.
  • Promote best practices in customer service.
  • Assist in developing new programs, promotions, special events, and fundraising.
  • Represent the YMCA professionally and promote a cheerful environment.
