About The Position

The Covey Center for the Arts is looking for qualified lighting designers and audio engineers to join our live events team. The Covey Center for the Arts provides lighting and audio support for Provo City sponsored events as well as for rental clients of the Covey Center main performance hall including dance, theater, concerts, corporate events and more. For more than seventeen years, the Covey Center for the Arts has been a cornerstone of creativity and cultural life in Utah County. Each season, we welcome more than 150,000 patrons to award-winning, family-friendly performances and robust arts education programs. From inspiring concerts to transformative outreach initiatives, the Covey has become Utah's premier all-ages destination for live performance and community engagement. This is a position in the stage operations area for the Covey Center for the Arts. The individual hired for this position will be required to perform the following duties:

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent .
  • Two years of training or experience working in a theatrical environment, including setting up and running sound and/or lighting equipment, console operation, programing, design, and troubleshooting.
  • Valid, lawful driver's license.
  • Proficiency with Yamaha and Allen & Heath consoles and digital and analog audio equipment operation, maintenance, repair, and trouble shooting.
  • Ability to mix a multi-microphone show (potentially up to 48 channels), including both concert and theatrical performances.
  • Understanding of sound and video related software including, but not limited to: QLab, Dante Networking, Wireless Workbench, and Apple Scripts.
  • Proficiency with EOS family of lighting consoles.
  • Ability to hang, focus, repair and maintain theatrical lighting equipment.
  • Understanding of DMX protocols and intelligent fixtures.
  • Experience in designing dance, theatrical, and concert lighting.
  • Ability and willingness to work long, irregular hours noted below.
  • Compliance with Provo City dress and grooming standards.
  • Skill in performing duties in a manner that demonstrates respect, integrity, courtesy, and kindness towards fellow workers, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to focus on and complete assigned tasks effectively and pay careful attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Setup and operate lighting, staging, and audio/video equipment.
  • Design lighting and/or audio aspects of productions as needed.
  • Load and unload trucks with theatrical equipment, props, sets, etc.
  • Operate as show caller as needed.
  • Help with set construction.
  • Be a member of running crews for live performances.
  • Perform care and maintenance of stage equipment.
  • Perform backstage custodial tasks.
  • Help in other areas of the building and perform other related duties as required.
