About The Position

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the supervision of the Activities Director, the Arts and Crafts Instructor will plan, direct, and supervise camp's arts and crafts program.

Requirements

  • College student or at least 19 years of age.
  • Training and Experience in Arts and Crafts activities and management.
  • Current CPR and first Aid certifications
  • Ability to teach creative skills
  • Ability to supervise staff, make scheduling assignments, and order supplies
  • Desire and ability to work with children in the outdoors
  • Ability to relate to one’s peer group
  • Good character, integrity, and ability to adapt to a camp setting.
  • Ability to accept guidance and supervision.
  • Enthusiasm, sense of humor, and patience and self-control.
  • Ability to communicate and work with individuals or groups participating in summer camp, and provide necessary instruction to campers, parents, and staff.
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to all summer camp activities.
  • Ability to communicate and train staff and campers in safety regulations and emergency procedures.
  • Ability to become First Aid and CPR Certified.
  • Ability to observe camper and staff behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety.
  • Ability to identify and respond to hazards, weather emergencies, etc.
  • Ability to plan, conduct, and supervise activities and programs for groups of 10-200 people.
  • Ability to operate motor vehicles and meet the safe driving requirements of the association.

Responsibilities

  • Set up the Arts and Crafts during staff training or before.
  • Teach staff their responsibilities in activity during staff training
  • Teach and monitor proper use of equipment.
  • Conduct initial and end-of-season inventory, and store equipment for safety.
  • Create check-out and return system for craft supplies.
  • Check equipment and make (or file for) repairs.
  • Conduct daily check of area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.
  • Carry our established roles in enforcing camp safety regulations.
  • Keep records on all participants: help them progress from beginner to advanced levels.
  • Award recognition when earned or merited.
  • Plan and work with others during special events.
  • Submit orders for equipment and supplies when needed ensuring timely arrival of materials.
  • Assist in packing all materials and supplies at the end of the season.
  • Evaluate current season and make recommendations for equipment, supplies, and program for following season.
  • Prepare for and actively participate in staff training, staff meetings, training sessions, and supervisory conferences.
  • Set a good example for campers and others including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing clean-up and chores, sportsmanship, table manners, appropriate use of language and appropriate behavior.
  • Never criticize the camp, other staff, or campers in the presence of other campers, but discuss with supervisor or administrator.
  • Follow the camp rules and regulations pertaining to smoking, use of alcoholic beverages, and the use of drugs.
  • Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment, and facilities.
  • Manage personal time off in accordance with camp policy.
  • Maintain good public relations with parents.
  • Submit all reports on time.
  • These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be reassigned and others duties may be assigned as required.
  • Provides leadership and support of Annual Campaign that results in achievement of our annual fund-raising goal
