About The Position

Emerson College’s Department of Performing Arts invites applications for a one-year, full-time Artist-in-Residence faculty term position in Stage Management for our BFA Stage Management and Design and Production programs. The Department seeks candidates who can contribute to the inclusive excellence of the academic community through ongoing engagement with students both inside and outside of the classroom in addition to traditional teaching, mentoring, and service. The appointment begins August 20, 2026 with a mandatory 2-day orientation August 20 & 21, 2026. The Performing Arts Department is supported by its own producing organization, Emerson Stage, in which the students work alongside our staff and industry professionals throughout 5 different venues to bring 8 to 10 fully produced, high quality productions to life annually.

Requirements

  • MFA degree in Stage Management with 2 years professional experience OR extensive professional credits of 5+ years in the industry.
  • Experience teaching Stage Management, Arts Management, and/or Production Management at the college level or in a professional role where mentorship was a responsibility.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a wide range of artistic performance media is preferred (Theatre, Opera, Dance, Immersive, Tours, Events, ect).
  • Affiliation with professional unions including Actor’s Equity, IATSE, AGMA, or other professional affiliations like USITT is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching courses in our BFA in Stage Management and our BFA in Design and Production, including courses would include a variety of upper & lower-level courses in production and stage management as well as practicum style courses for their work on Emerson Stage productions.
  • This position carries a 3/3 course load, teaching 24 credit hours over the academic year.
  • Assisting in the admissions interview process for prospective students into the stage management program
  • Advising stage management teams on Emerson Stage productions
  • Supporting the post graduate experience of the Stage Management students through work on resumes and networking opportunities
  • Serving on department and college committees
  • Participating in the college’s system of shared governance.
