This position is responsible for collecting semen and inseminating hens in chicken houses. Inspecting semen to determine quality and quantity for use as well as inspection of hens for evidence of production. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Insemination of hens. This is a process where 1 team member inverts the hens’ oviducts and another team member places semen into the oviduct. Management and leads will inspect this process to ensure correct placement of semen and ensure correct hen handling methods are being used. Team members are required to rotate between the inverting job and semen placement job. Hens will be inspected for evidence of production during this process. (75%) Collect semen free of containments from males. Semen collection duties will be assisted by management and leads based on team members ability to collect containment free semen without causing injury to the male. Visually inspecting semen and recording the quality scores. (5%) Weighing of males and recording of weights and adjusting males’ feed. (5%) Assisting management, management support and leads in the evolution of semen using microscope/densimeter and other equipment to determine semen quality. Males not having acceptable semen quality will be replaced. (5%) Duties may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice, such as washing/disinfecting vehicles; set up and cleaning of AI equipment; sanitizing AI breakroom; trimming beaks/vents; properly euthanizing selected or weak/ill birds in accordance with company policy (10%) Biosecurity/Animal Welfare Requirements: The jobsite is a bio secure environment which requires showering, changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility. Appropriate clothing and footwear are provided by the Company. No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing. Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.). Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines. Physical Demands and Work Environment: The successful candidate(s) must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation. Physical: Must use safe lifting techniques. Will occasionally lift and/or move, using two Team Members, up to 80 pounds to move items such as bird coops. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand majority of shift (concrete floor) and walk up to 2 miles; use hands to handle or feel objects and controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; climbing/ladder usage; stoop/bend up to 1000 times per day; wrist movement with pipettes up to 2000 times per day; talk or hear; drive a vehicle within the farm complex. Specific vision abilities required by the job include meticulous close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus. Environment: Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and in hot, dry, extreme dusty, wet and cold environments Personal Protective Equipment Required: Safety goggles and/or glasses, chemical gloves, safety glasses and company issued footwear are required. Ear plugs will be used as needed. NIOSH approved N95 particulate respirators will be worn as needed. Chemicals Commonly Used: Disinfectants such as Synergize, Virocid, Clorox Wipes, Bleach, hand sanitizer, Lysol, etc. Safety: Team member is expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures. These include but are not limited to Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO and Personal Protective Equipment. Team member is expected to identify, address and mitigate safety related risks.
