About The Position

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Articulated Tug Barge (ATB) Mate to join our maritime team. The ATB Mate will play a crucial role in supporting the Captain in the safe and efficient navigation and operation of the ATB unit. This position requires strong navigational skills, leadership abilities, and a commitment to maintaining a high standard of safety and environmental responsibility.

Requirements

Current Mate's License (Mate of Towing, if applicable).
Relevant endorsements for ATB operations are advantageous.
Current Medical Certificate
LG Tankerman preferred.
LG Tankerman Assistant preferred.
Valid passport
Valid TWIC
Ability to work safely and navigate in a marine setting; walk, sit, or stand for extended periods of time; frequently reach with hands and arms; frequently crouch or stoop; climb/descend stairs and ladders; occasionally lift and/or carry up to 60 pounds; occasionally enter and work in confined spaces; travel a minimum of 50% of the year; withstand exposure to environmental conditions such as heat, rain, cold and or/humidity
Minimum of 5 years of experience as a mate on vessels, with experience in ATB operations preferred.
Familiarity with ATB technology and systems.

Responsibilities

Assist the Captain in navigating the tug in barge operation.
Assume watchkeeping duties to ensure continuous monitoring of the vessel's position, course, and speed.
Supervise and coordinate the activities of deckhands and other crew members.
Provide guidance and training to ensure the crew's understanding of safety protocols and operational procedures.
Implement and enforce safety procedures and protocols in collaboration with the Captain.
Assist in conducting regular safety drills and ensure crew readiness for emergency situations.
Oversee cargo handling operations, including loading, and unloading procedures.
Ensure proper stowage and securing of cargo to maintain stability during transit.
Maintain clear and effective communication with the Captain, crew members, and onshore management.
Handle radio communication and navigation equipment proficiently.
Collaborate with the engineering team to monitor and address maintenance needs.
Conduct routine inspections of equipment and report any issues to the Captain.
Maintain accurate records of navigational activities, crew duties, and safety-related documentation.
Assist in the preparation of voyage reports and other required paperwork.
