Requirements

  • Professional Educator License Visual Arts with grade range of current credentials or Special (Visual Arts) (K-12)
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk or hear.
  • The employee frequently is required to use hands to handle or feel materials.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

Responsibilities

  • Teach a variety of art concepts and techniques that align with the District 54 art curriculum and state/national learning standards.
  • Provide differentiated instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciations and the ability to make qualitative judgments about art.
  • Demonstrate techniques utilizing a variety of media and teaching techniques.
  • Develop differentiated instructional plans that will fulfill the art objectives, yet allow for activities in new or experimental techniques.
  • Organize class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstrations, and working time.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate student behavior conducive to a productive and safe classroom environment.
  • Instruct students in proper care and use of tools and equipment.
  • Organize storage areas and control use of materials, equipment, and tools to prevent loss or abuse and to minimize time required for distribution and collection.
  • Evaluate each student’s performance and effort in art.
  • Keep an inventory of all supplies both software and hardware.
  • Order supplies responsibly as needed each school year following the art budget guidelines and ordering procedures.
  • Plan and participate in exhibiting student artwork for the school, district, and community.
  • Maintain professional competence through inservice education activities provided by the district and/or in self selected professional growth activities.
  • Collaborate positively and effectively with district, school, and classroom colleagues during the school year, professional development time, and in spaces where materials are shared.
  • Utilize teacher evaluation tools in conformance with district guidelines.
  • Communicate with parents and appropriate school personnel on student progress.
  • Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs initiatives within the school of assignment and/or on a district level.
  • Promote and advocate a general appreciation of the arts.
  • Supervise students in classroom and schoolwide activities as assigned.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by building or district administration.
