About The Position

The Visual Arts Teacher at Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Florida is responsible for developing and delivering a comprehensive visual arts program for youth. This role involves collaborating with the program team to create engaging art classes that foster creativity and skill development among participants. The teacher will lead various art programming sessions throughout the year, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all youth involved. Additionally, the position includes mentoring youth, organizing public art events, and providing professional development for other staff members.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Fine Arts or Master of Fine Arts degree in visual arts or equivalent.
• Experience in a mentorship or teaching role with tweens and teens.
• Proven success in the field of visual arts, particularly in pastel/chalk drawing and oil/acrylic painting.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to build trust and rapport with youth and staff.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in organizing public art events.
• Familiarity with various visual arts media and techniques.
• Ability to adapt teaching methods to different skill levels.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional arts instruction to Club youth.
• Establish and maintain an environment of physical and emotional safety based on respect.
• Lead semesters of art programming blocks throughout the year, including skill development classes and open studio time.
• Organize and implement culminating events for programs throughout the year.
• Design skill development and open studio classes for all skill levels.
• Encourage youth to build their own portfolios and work independently.
• Educate young artists on equipment and proper use of materials.
• Participate in required Club trainings and staff meetings.
• Serve as a mentor to all Club youth and lead professional development workshops for other staff.
