About The Position

ART SUMMER CAMP SITE DIRECTOR ART SUMMER CAMP SITE DIRECTOR The Deerfield Park District's mission is to provide outstanding parks, services, facilities, and recreation programs that enrich lives, promote healthy living, and provide memorable experiences. To support our over 25 parks and facilities, we have a dedicated and diverse workforce of over 500 staff seasonally. We are an award-winning Park District with multiple distinctions of excellence, including our Best Workplace for Commuters. We are looking for someone to come teach our Design art rotation and make it their own! Whether it's recycled art, multi-media art, etc., the choice is yours. We have a flexible team that loves new and innovative ideas that they can pass on to the campers and show them a new way of looking at art. As site director, you would create a lesson plan for the summer, put together a supplies list for the supervisor, and then get to spend your day with the campers teaching art! Requirements

  • Incumbents must be at least 16 years old, except for extended care positions, where individuals as young as 15 are eligible.
  • Ability to create a positive and supportive environment for children.
  • Ability to connect effectively with preschool and elementary school-aged children while being attentive and responsive to their individual needs.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm and a genuine commitment to working with children ranging from age three to 8th grade.
  • Experience with lesson planning and teaching preferred.
  • Ability to conduct oneself professionally and serve as a role model to the children.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and be on your feet for long periods of time.
  • Must pass a background check
  • Staff are expected to commit to working for the entire summer season

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred to have experience in ceramics, drawing, painting, and/or design.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and teach weekly art lessons for camp groups.
  • Supervise campers, ensuring adherence to program rules, safety, and regulations.
  • Collaborate with counselors to plan and deliver engaging group activities.
  • Lead age-appropriate activities.
  • Address and manage camper behavior issues effectively.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and litter-free camp environment.
  • Communicate with parents about camper experiences and report concerns to leadership.
  • Actively participate in camp activities as a positive role model.
