Art Studio Coordinator
About The Position
The Art Studio Coordinator is a champion of creativity, curiosity and joyful mess-making. Serving as the Museum’s visual arts content expert, this role designs and leads playful, open-ended art experiences for children (infants through school-age) and the adults who love them. Through culturally responsive, hands-on making, experimentation and collaboration, the Coordinator weaves many forms of visual arts media into multi-modal experiences that are extraordinary and unexpected. Grounded in the Museum’s competency-based learning framework, the Art Studio Coordinator intentionally fosters teamwork, perseverance, curiosity, compassion and courage—inviting guests to try new materials, take creative risks, solve problems together and express themselves with confidence. The Coordinator models these competencies for guests and staff alike while supervising The Art Studio team, managing the Clay Studio and leading the Artist-in-Residence program.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Art Education or a related field, or equivalent training and experience.
- At least 1 year of supervisory experience.
- At least 2 years of experience planning and/or facilitating play-based art education for children and families.
- At least 1 year of customer service, hospitality or related experience.
- Strong facilitation, communication, writing and public speaking skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, access and inclusion.
- Ability to lead teams with empathy, curiosity and courage.
- Strong organizational skills and comfort with managing studio operations.
- Spanish language proficiency strongly preferred.
- Ability to lift, move and transport materials and equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to remain standing or active for extended periods (up to 6 hours).
- Frequent kneeling, squatting, reaching and movement in a hands-on environment.
- Ability to operate a two-way radio, computer and standard office and art equipment.

Responsibilities
- Design and implement a dynamic calendar of inclusive, developmentally appropriate art experiences that spark curiosity, encourage creative risk-taking and support the Museum’s mission.
- Create welcoming studio systems and environments where teamwork, compassion and exploration are at the heart of every interaction.
- Oversee daily Art Studio operations, including scheduling, purchasing, inventory and budgets.
- Hire, train, supervise and mentor Art Studio Specialists, modeling perseverance, collaboration and best practices in facilitation and guest experience.
- Coordinate Education staff working in The Art Studio to ensure consistent, high-quality experiences.
- Develop and deliver fee-based workshops and specialized programming for special events and fundraisers to meet revenue goals.
- Collect, track and document attendance and evaluation data to assess impact, support grant reporting and continuously improve experiences.
- Manage The Art Studio components of the Artist-in-Residence program including RFPs, recruitment, selection, training, stipends, scheduling and facilitation; collaborate with Exhibits on artist leave-behind installations.
- Manage the Clay Studio and kiln operations, maintaining organized systems and supporting all firing processes.
- Collaborate with Marketing, Exhibits and Education leadership to share stories of creativity and amplify public awareness of programs.
- Maintain a commitment to supporting operations, exhibits and programs outside of The Art Studio to create a cohesive team environment.
- Encourage an approach to work that values constructive feedback practices to promote a culture of learning and growth.
