About The Position

Under the supervision of the Instruction and Classroom Support Technician, the Art Gallery Assistant will be responsible for supporting the Art Gallery Coordinator and general operations of the North Seattle College Art Gallery. This cyclical position works 15 hours per a week for 3 quarters with some occasional evening responsibilities. This position supervises no one. This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by WFSE. We are a district of three distinct colleges: North Seattle College, Seattle Central College, and South Seattle College, and five specialty training centers. Requirements

  • Associate of Arts or Two Years Equivalent Experience in Art or Relevant Field
  • Previous experience organizing community arts events
  • Demonstrated experience in exhibit design and preparation
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications & the Adobe Suite
  • Experience with professional design and layout applications
  • Experience working in a community college setting.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Art Gallery Coordinator, Art Faculty, and Art Group to develop exhibitions that complement academic coursework and engage campus and community interests.
  • Assist with all aspects of exhibition installation, including mounting, lighting, and deinstallation.
  • Partner with the Gallery Coordinator on exhibition design, programming, and related events such as visiting artist lectures (4¿6 per year) and workshops (approximately 3 per year).
  • Provide hospitality and support for visiting artists and guests during exhibition openings and related events.
  • Monitor and maintain the Art Gallery facilities as needed to ensure a professional and welcoming environment.
  • Prepare, proofread, and edit exhibition materials, including text panels, labels, and other interpretive content.
  • Manage and update the gallery's social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram) by sharing relevant articles, artist links, news, and event photos.
  • Design and produce promotional materials such as posters and digital graphics for exhibitions and events.
  • Draft, edit, and distribute press releases in coordination with the Gallery Coordinator.
  • Support the organization and jurying of specific art shows as assigned.
  • Assist in maintaining and updating the Art Gallery website with current exhibition and event information.
  • Document exhibitions through photography, edit images, and share with artists and on digital platforms.
  • Provide general administrative and planning support for gallery operations.
  • Offer backup coverage and guidance for gallery work-study student monitors when needed.
