About The Position

Teaches art to adults with disabilities and assists Program Director by performing the following duties. Establishes and maintains a creative and pleasurable environment in The Studio. Acts as a stimulating and inspirational force, helping each artist grow to fullest capacity. Continuously develops and carries out projects to expose students to as wide a variety of art experiences as possible. Maintains a portfolio of each artist's work in sequential order. Helps select artwork for exhibit in the Studio and for outside exhibitions. Maintains art supplies and equipment. Notifies Lead Art Facilitator if supplies or equipment are needed. Organizes preparation for work and for cleanup of Studio. Designs and uses adaptations of art supplies and equipment as needed by each student. Performs other assignments as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • College level coursework in social work, special education, psychology, or related field.
  • Minimum of one year working with individuals with disabilities.
  • Experience in fine arts; practicing artist preferred.
  • Practical experience in teaching art to people with disabilities highly desirable.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts and percentages.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret a variety of instructions.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificates, TB clearance, physical exam, and fingerprint clearance.
