About The Position

Assist with meaningful and engaging art museum programs and educational experiences at the Stark Museum of Art for Pre-K-12 school students and the public.

Requirements

  • Teaching experience or experience working with children such as camp counseling or afterschool care, studio art experience, museum experience desired (volunteer or internship experience acceptable)
  • Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in Studio Art, Art Education, Art History, Museum Studies, or related field
  • Must be able to interact professionally with diverse groups of individuals, from pre-school children to senior citizens.
  • Requires ability to display tact and discretion, consistent demonstration of good judgment, and an ability to listen and learn.
  • Requires ability to interact professionally and appropriately with visitors and co-workers.
  • Must be a team player able to work comfortably and effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Passion for art and the humanities and their educational role in today’s world
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
  • Skill in using research techniques
  • Ability to create, compose and edit written materials
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities
  • Highly motivated self-starter with a hands-on work ethic, good judgment, a positive, can-do attitude and a sense of humor
  • Requires strong public speaking skills
  • Ability to communicate well with visitors of varied ages
  • Confidence in presenting to groups
  • Position incumbent must have personal vehicle for travel in the community, a satisfactory driving record, and provide proof of auto insurance.
  • The employee works a minimum of 14 hours each week; Monday-Saturday, occasional evening events, and a minimum of 1 Saturday each month.
  • Must be able to commit to the entire time period: May 18, 2026 – August 10, 2026.
  • A successful candidate will be eligible to be hired for multiple academic years.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with and supports school program activities, including onsite field trips, virtual field trips, murals, community art gallery exhibitions
  • Assists with and supports public programming activities, including onsite programs and community outreach
  • Assists with maintaining art supplies, classroom spaces and gallery Education Areas
  • Conducts 2 limited research projects that will be incorporated into SMA Education program development
  • Learn art education pedagogies, art studio management techniques, and art history research skills to support a wide range of art museum education programs
  • Assists Education Department in other programming duties as assigned
  • Facilitate positive learning experiences for all visitors in the Museum.
  • Work functions are performed to create high-quality museum and art education programs.
  • Supports Foundation’s goals and values; display passion and optimism; mobilize others to fulfill the vision and inspiration to others; further the Museum’s mission.
  • Provide courteous, professional, timely and accurate service and support to all visitors, vendors, volunteers and co-workers.
  • Give and welcome feedback; contribute to building a positive team spirit, able to build morale and group commitments to goals and objectives.
  • Work within approved budget.
  • Follow policies and procedures; maintain appropriate records, complete administrative tasks correctly and on time.
  • Maintain proficiency in all computer related programs to perform job duties.
  • Follow safe work procedures; ensure all employees follow safe work procedures; report potentially unsafe conditions; see that all equipment is maintained and functioning properly.
  • Observe scheduled work hours.
