Art Center Instructor leads classes, workshops, and special event projects for a variety of ages based on area of expertise and the needs of the Art Center. Must be able to teach youth and family ceramics at an introductory to intermediate level for children, youth, and families. Individuals hired for this position may substitute for art classes in other mediums. Preference given to those instructors with experience teaching ceramics and glass. The primary position responsibilities and areas of impact are: Prepares and provides creative curriculum and instruction for ceramics, including pottery wheel and hand-building. Works with Lead Studio Tech to coordinate firings. Instructs special bookings such as birthday/private parties or lessons and events. Ensures student needs are met through personal recognition, individual and group instruction, and providing quality service. Effectively prepares the necessary resources and supplies prior to class and responds in timely manner to emails and other schedule inquiries. Assumes a leadership role as an arts professional through administration of all Art Center policies and procedures, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for participants and monitoring the well-being of all participants throughout art programs. Assists in the upkeep and general maintenance of the Art Center building. May be responsible for opening and closing the Art Center building for programs and open studio time. While these areas are the primary focus of this position, we believe strongly in teamwork and employees will be called upon to perform a variety of duties as a part of their role with the City.
