About The Position

Estrella Mountain Community College (EMCC) is hiring an Art Lab Assistant - Federal Work Study in our Arts & Composition department. This position provides hands-on support within the Art, Photography, and Digital Media labs at Estrella Mountain Community College. This position offers students the opportunity to gain practical experience working in a professional studio and lab environment under the guidance of the Lab Technician Senior. The position assists with the day-to-day operations of multiple studio spaces, supporting faculty, students, and staff while learning the behind-the-scenes processes that sustain a creative educational environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with studio and classroom preparation, including setup and cleanup for art and photography courses.
  • Monitor open lab hours alongside Senior Lab Technician, providing peer support and ensuring students follow established lab safety and usage protocols.
  • Help maintain equipment and supply inventories, ensuring items are properly stored, cleaned, and ready for use.
  • Support equipment upkeep such as charcoal, printing equipment, and darkroom tools under supervision.
  • Participate in faculty-led installations and art displays, learning proper handling, mounting, and curation practices.
  • Assist with digital lab support, including software troubleshooting, printer maintenance, and computer organization.
  • Collaborate with the Lab Technician Senior to improve workspace systems, recordkeeping, and efficiency.
  • Perform additional tasks related to lab operations as assigned.
